This marble statue of James Monroe was commissioned by the Venezuelan government in the 1890s. It was made by Attilio Piccirilli (1866-1945). The statue's base reads "JAMES MONROE, 1758-1831." Monroe is depicted sanding with his right leg slightly forward. He is pointing his right hand slightly downward. In this left hand, he is holding a book or collection of papers. There is a column just behind his left hand. Monroe is wearing a coat, trousers, stockings, a waistcoat, and a neckcloth. The side of the base is labeled with the artist's name and the year 1931.
