Description

U. S. Treasury medal. Re-strike of Battle of Saratoga medal awarded to General Horatio Gates, first Adjutant General of the U.S. Army. Front shows Horation Gates in profile with motto "HORATIO GATES DUCI STRENUO" around 3/4 of the medal. On bottom are words "COMITIA AMERICANA". Reverse shows one soldier handing another his sword with a drum and flag between them and troops in background on each side. Motto above "SALUS REGIONUM SEPTENTRIONAL". On bottom are words "HOSTE AD SARATOGAM IN DEDITION ACCEPTO--DIE XVI OCT MDCCLXXVII". Attached is dark blue and red ribbon.
