Hilltop House Hotel - The hotel was built in 1888 by Thomas S. Lovett, an African American entrepreneur who lived in Harpers Ferry. Lovett managed other hotels in the area and operated Hilltop House from 1888 until his death in 1926. The original hotel burned in 1912, was rebuilt, burned again in 1918, and was again rebuilt.
