Description

Three part brass colored medal with American flag hanging behind and connecting the parts. Spread-winged eagle at top sitting on crossed cannons on pile of cannon balls. Center part is similar to a colonel's shoulder bar insignia with an eagle on a blue background. Bottom part is the official G.A.R. medal with five-pointed star. In center are two soldiers shaking hands with a woman and child in front. In circle around them is "GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC VETERAN 1861 1866". Back of star has many symbols such as stars, arrows, hearts, a Maltese cross, crescent moon, etc.
