Description

Lawyers Row at Washington and George Streets in Charles Town, West Virginia across the street from the Jefferson County Court House. Shown in the photograph are (left to right) George Rutherford Moore, James H. Thompson, Walter Moten, and Charles E. Baylor. Those occupying offices were William L. Wilson and George W. Baylor, law partners; Frank Beckwith and Thomas Claiborne Green, law partners; and George Rutherford Moore, insurance agent. African American James H. Thompson owned the barbershop and African American Walter Moten worked in the shop. Lawyers Row and the barbershop were torn down about 1908 and the Farmers and Merchants Bank was built.
