According to JCM historian, because the scrapbook was cited in Millard K. Bushong's History of Jefferson County, West Virginia, published in 1941, the scrapbook had to have been assembled before 1940. Also includes text, newspaper articles, a hand-drawn map, and two silhouettes. There is no stated author (see notes), dates of development, footnotes, or index. Two items are tucked into the back of the album: a small pamphlet entitled "History of Carlyle House, Alexandria, VA" and dated July 1927, and two pages torn from "Harper's Young People" from November 2, 1886, with a story by Howard Pyle entitled "The Simpleton and his Little Black Hen."
