Handwritten note glued to the wood backing of frame of painted overlay (IMG819) of James W. Macoughtry reads: My Brother - James W. Macoughtry - belonged to The Liberty Hall Volunteers - a company composed of The Students of Washington College - now Washington and Lee - which Company was in The 4" Va Regiment - Stonewall Brigade.
