South George Street approaching Washington Street, circa 1940s
At bottom of photo is written "Approaching Washington Street on South George Street. Dick Carper's Esso Station is today remodeled with a brick facade to house beauty and shoe shops. Straightforward in the distance is the water tower of the Harness Factory. The white-trimmed, corner entrance to Melvin Strider's furniture and appliance store is one block ahead on the right side of North George Street. Note the cars parked at the righthand curb facing in opposite directions. Parking meters were installed that year."Acquisition
