Description

U.S. Navy dress hat. Cocked hat with triangular shape with two points on either side. Hat is covered in black materials, mostly black felt that has deteriorated almost entirely off. Front and back panels of hat are lined with a black textured lace ribbon, and united by a tied black ribbon on either side. Each point of the hat has a coiled group of gold fringe tucked into the hat. The front of the hat has a diagonal gold stripe ribbon at the center, over a rounded black ribbon and secured by a gold button with an eagle. Inside of hat is silk and leather lined. Stamped with the maker's logo which reads: JACOB REED'S SONS FOUNDED 1824 PHILADELPHIA."
