Prato Rio
Caption reads: "Home of Gen. Charles Lee. The village of Leetown, W. Va. is thirteen miles from Martinsburg, nine from Shepherdstown, and six from Charles Town. Here Lee built "Prato Rio", the right half of the house above, and used chalklines for partitions. He was an eccentric bachelor, and was an English-born soldier of fortune. He was second in command during the early stages of the Revolutionary War, but was dismissed from the American army for insubordination at Monmouth. His will, on record in Martinsburg, is unique in its biting sarcasm. It requests that his body be not buried near a Presbyterian or Anabaptist church."
