Collection of papers of the Chamberlain (Chamberlin) family of the Kabletown area: (1) Deed of purchase and sale of African American boy named Harry to Elijah Chamberlin by Elizabeth Griffith and George Hite (administrators of the estate of the late David Griffith), dated January 17, 1803. Witnesses: Nicholas Roper and Joseph Farr (2) Promissory note of Elijah Chamberlin to Nicholas Roper, dated February 16 (?), 1809. (3) Letter (ordering leather) to Elijah Chamberlin, Bullskin, from Battaile Muse, dated December 26, 1794. (4) Letter to Elijah Chamberlain from Gabriel Nourse, undated, concerning sending Harry to pick up 4 barrels of flour to send to Baltimore before the river rises (5) Indenture, dated October 22, 1803, between John Chamberlain and his wife, Elizabeth Chamberlain, and Elijah Chamberlain for the purchase of land along the Bullskin. (6) Document, dated August 15, 1810, relating to purchase of Spanish Merino Rams by Elijah Chamberlain. On reverse of document is handwritten ledger or inventory relating to purchase of potatoes, oats, etc., between Jonas Cooper and Elijah Chamberlain, dated 1808. (7) Promissory note, dated October, 1769, of John Reid to Jonas Chamberlin. (8) Receipt written and signed by Battaile Muse to Elijah Chaimberlin (Chamberlain) for flour. Dated Aug. 8, 1795. (9) Letter, dated July 11, 1814, to Eliza Chamberlain from John Lyons, Geo. Town, regarding a lost letter and check from the Bank of Winchester to Mr. Milton and including reference to discussions about to open with England concerning peace [May be referring to end of War of 1812.
