IMG3673Description
St. Peter's Cornet Band. Photograph was taken in front of a store which advertises W. L. Douglas shoes. In the right window is a sign "W. L. Douglas 3 Shoe For Sale." There is a little girl looking out the left window. Emblem "SPB" is on the hats of the members. "St. Peter's Cornet Band" is written on the drum.
Presumably, St. Peter's is a reference to St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Shepherdstown. There was a Shepherdstown Cornet Band active in Shepherdstown off and on from 1885-1897. W. L. Douglas shoes were also sold in his shop in the 1890s, further dating this photograph to the 1890s.Acquisition
