Scope and Content

Scrapbook containing clippings from 1881 to 1898, primarily from local newspapers, pasted onto pages of a scrapbook and loose papers, including early 20th century (1900s - 1930s) newspaper clippings and a paper on the Charles Town Male Academy presented by Hannah J. Howell, November 9 1928, to an organization (perhaps Jefferson County Historical Society). Scrapbook conents presumably were collected by Mamie Howell and/or Hannah Howell. On many articles the year is handwritten in pencil; articles cover activities of primarily well-to-do white people in Charles Town. On a small piece of paper in the scrapbook is written: "Scrap book to Carrie Wilson"
