Star shaped with American flag ribbon with spread winged eagle on top sitting on crossed cannons. In center of medal are a sailor and soldier shaking hands with Liberty standing behind them and a woman and child kneeling between them. In circle around scene "GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC 1861 VETERAN 1866". Back of star has arrows, crosses, crescent moons, hearts, etc. On back of eagle "PAT. MAY 4, 1886 JUNE 22, 1886".
