Map of Frederick, Berkeley, & Jefferson Counties in the state of Virginia by Charles Varle. Relief shown by hachures. Shows names of some residents. Topographical description of the counties of Frederick, Berkeley & Jefferson in which the mapmaker described "the natural curiosities of those counties." Inset in lower right corner: "Plan of Winchester". Includes names of neighboring counties: Loudon [sic} Fauquier, Shanandoah [sic], etc. Show towns, grist and merchant mills, bodies of water, mountain gaps, etc. Handwritten in ink on back: "Map given to / Jefferson County Historical Society / by / B. D. Gibson / November 1937 / Framed by A. D. Kenamond". Glued or pasted to cardboard.
According to the JCM historian, only land owners who paid a fee were included on the map.Acquisition
