ARC891-1: A note payable from Francis Yates and John Yates, agreeing to pay D. Alfred T. Magill a sum of 500 dollars with interest for the purchase of Harriet, an African American woman, and her two children. Dated October 12, 1836. Updates on the payment of interest are recorded on the back of the paper. Last entry is January 18, 1843.
ARC891-2: A note payable from Geo. B. Beall to John Yates, promising to pay two hundred and five dollars for three enslaved African Americans. Dated December 25, 1850.
ARC891-3: Proclamation by Governor Henry A. Wise, given on March 6, 1858, requiring the senators and delegates of the two houses of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth to convene at the Capitol in Richmond on March 8, 1858. At the bottom of the page in pen is written "To Francis Yates Senator." Francis Yates represented Jefferson County in the Virginia state senate.
ARC891-4: Letter written by R. J. Lovell, from Rapid Inn, to his cousin stating that he received his note on his way to Culpeper C. House. Dated February 16, 1862.
ARC891-5: Order issued by Provost Marshalls Office, Harpers Ferry, Va., stating that Isaac Yates has permission to take his mare wherever he may find her. Signed by Capt. R. E. Cook, Provost Marshall. Dated May 26, 1862.
ARC891-6: Letter written by Francis Yates, from Flowing Springs, Charlestown, Va., addressed to Major Hilliaby. Dated August 18, 1864. Yates discusses horses that he will lend to Major Hilliaby.
ARC891-7: Receipt from Office of Assistant Quartermaster, Harpers Ferry, Va. and Frederick, Md., for horse purchased by Francis Yates, for seventy dollars, sold on Nov 25, 1865. Signed Geo A. Flagg, Brevet Major and A.Q.M.
