Description

Lockwood House. Built in 1848 as a home for the U. S. Armory's paymaster. During the Civil War was headquarters for Union General Henry Lockwood. Acquired by Rev. Nathan C. Brackett in 1867, was used as a school building for former slaves, and became part of Storer College, the first West Virginia college open to African Americans.
