Harpers Ferry, West Virginia: Where Three States Meet One of the most picturesque and historic spots in the United States, where West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia meet. In the foreground are the Potomac River and the B & O Railroad bridges. John Brown's Raid in 1859 and a Confederate siege in 1862, when 11,000 Federal Troops were captured, were the important events that took place and caused the area to be designed (*designated) a National Monument.
