Description

Two postcards c. 1906 published by Dr. Walter E. Dittmeyer a Harpers Ferry pharmacist whose shop was located on the northwest corner of Shenandoah and Potomac Streets. The top postcard shows the U. S. Armory Canal which provided waterpower for machinery in the musket factory along the Potomac River. In the 20th century the canal provided water for first for the Harpers Ferry Paper Company and then the Potomac Power Plant. The bottom postcard shows Lake Quigley which supplied water for the Shenandoah Pulp Company. Note: Locks & Gov. Dam on Potomac; Shenandoah from Camp Hill Cemetery.
