The V-J Day Parade sponsored by Jackson-Perks Post No. 71 American Legion Charles Town, West Virginia, on August 14th, 1946. Shown are African American men who served in World War II on parade marching west on Washington Street. The officer out front is Major Sigismund D. Taylor, U. S. Army. Also identified on the front row are June McDonald (first on left) and Jim Bishop (last on right). Visible in background is the Pitts-Jefferson Theatre marquis advertising the 1945 film "Lady on a Train" starring Deanna Durbin and Ralph Bellamy. The reviewing stand seen in the upper right corner was in front of the new American Legion headquarters which was dedicated following the parade.
