ARC836Description
Map showing counties in Virginia and West Virginia. Berkeley and Jefferson Counties appear on the Virginia map. Although published in 1863, the map reflects the make up of the two states as of December 1862. By that time, the counties shown in West Virginia had voted to accept the state's constitution. However, Jefferson and Berkeley Counties did not vote until May 28, 1863, too late to be included in the West Virginia portion of the map.
Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1863 by S. Augustus Mitchell, Jr. in the Clerks Office of the District Court of the U.S. for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Written on the back of map in cursive is: THE WIDOW AFTER THE DEATH OF HER HUSBAND, MOVED TO WASHINGTON COUNTY NEAR THE TOWN OF SPRINGFIELD HER SON THOMAS WE FIND IN 1806 IN HARDIN COUNTY WHERE ABRAHAM WAS BORN IN 1809.
