West Virginia Fireman's Convention. Note: photo #1 taken in Ranson, W. Va., others are from Charles Town, W. Va. Scott and White Druggists on photos #3 and #5. Verso reads: "From the 1947 West Virginia Firemans Convention held in Charles Town, Jefferson County, West Virginia, during the summer of 1947 (July or August). Following the big parade, most of the equipment of the fire companies were displayed as they were parked on the Main Street (Washington Street). Four of the photographs are from the Main Street display, one photograph was taken during the parade. This was 1947, many of the fire companies in the immediate post war years had been able to purchase new fire engines, all of these featured are new 1946 or 1947 fire engines. Photos taken with a small Kodak Box Camera. Photo #1 Picture taken during parade at corner of 3rd Avenue and Mildred Street (Ranson, W. Va.). New Charles Washington Center in the background. The drug store is on the corner. Fire engine is the new Maxim of the Citizens Fire Company of Charles Town, West Virginia. Photo #2 Sara Zane Fire Company of Winchester, Virginia. Engine is a Ward La France. Photo #3 Fort Ashby, W. Va. Engine is American La France, Photo #4 Ryneal Host Company Number 5, Martinsburg, W. Va. Fire Engine is a Seagrave. Photo #5 Martinsburg, West Virginia Hose Company Number 4 (?). Fire engine is a Mack, which is painted green. Note the shamrock on the door. Host Company Number 4 was started in the Irish Hill section of Martinsburg, W. Va., East Burke Station."
