Continual Conflict at Harper's Ferry- Battle of Bolivar Heights October 16, 1861- Harper's Ferry, West Virginia, was the scene of continual conflict during the Civil War. On October 16, 1861, Federal leader Col. John W. Geary drove the Confederates under Lt. Col. Turner Ashby from their position on Bolivar Heights. Harper's Ferry and the surrounding area is being restored and now has many museums and interesting tourist attractions.
