Stone-Tate House (SE corner of Washington and Lawrence streets). The rear section of this Adam, or Federal, style building was erected by Jacob and Barbara Stone on property purchased from Charles Washington in 1791. In 1800 it was sold to William Tate, a prominent Charles Town citizen, who built the main section. In 1818 the Bank of the Valley of Virginia purchased the building and occupied the front part while the bank's cashier lived in the back.
