Ledger from a Strider family business, likely a general merchandise store in Uvilla.Context
According to historian Doug Perks, the Striders were at Uvilla in the 1880s. The store was operated by Nicholas S. J. Strider. One of the original RFD routes started from his store in 1896, and his oldest son, 16 year old Melvin Talbot Strider, was the mail carrier. They later moved to Charlestown and started a furniture/undertaking business which is the predecessor of today's Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home. The furniture store operated into the 1970s.Acquisition
