Collection of 19th century documents of the John and Esther Locke family and descendants related to the Locke family mercantile and mill business and family matters.
The collection contains several letters referencing either the Civil War, slavery, or John Brown. There are a number of receipts signed by members of the Washington family.
The collection contains 47 folders:
Folder 1 - Letter regarding the John Brown, from Sheriff Joseph Campbell dated November 11, 1859, stating the need for more jailers for prisoners from the raid. Includes a list of jailers and how much they were paid. (see transcription in media files)
