Berkeley County included areas now known as Jefferson and Morgan Counties.
From the Preface: The 1787 tax list is a unique one. It is the result of a law passed by the Virginia Assembly on October 11, 1786 which mandated that the tax commissioner should...call on every person subject to taxation or having property in his or her possession for a written list. Includes all free males subject to tax, distinguishing free males not the head of household and to note the number of free white males between 16 and 21.
