Image of African American students and teachers at St. Philip's Parochial and Industrial School.
St. Philip's Episcopal Church for African Americans began during the rectorship of The Rev. William H. Meade at Zion Episcopal Church in Charles Town as a Sunday School in the Zion church gallery. This was the beginning of what is now St. Philip's Church. Later, St. Philip's Chapel was built with support from Zion Church and people outside the church.
