Jonathan Art Foundation collection
In 1919 Paul Grimm moved to Hollywood and began his art career painting backdrops for the movie studios. Grimm settled in Palm Springs in 1932 and remained there for the rest of his life. Although best known as a desert painter, Grimm also produced landscapes of California’s missions, high country, harbors and foothills. A favorite subject of his, the eucalyptus, is seen here with his coloristic attention to the tree’s peeling bark and leaves.
