In 1930 George Brandriff, a dentist who began painting two years prior, was granted Jonathan Club’s Artist Life Membership. Although mostly self-taught, he studied with California Impressionist masters Anna Hills, Carl O. Borg, and fellow JC member Jack Wilkinson Smith. After building a studio-home in Laguna Beach, Brandriff taught painting and served as president of the local art association. His subject matter included beach scenes, marines, mountain landscapes, still lifes, and figures.
