(b. 1861, Byron, NY – d. Los Angeles, CA)
STILL LIFE WITH ORANGES AND MARMALADE
1889, Oil on canvas, 24 x 40 inches
Jonathan Club collection
Fanny Duvall studied at New York’s Art Students League and taught art in Syracuse before moving to Los Angeles in 1888. Within a year of this traditional still life painting (featuring California’s iconic oranges), Duvall began working in the new Impressionist style, making her one of the first California artists to do so.
