Alson Skinner Clark was one of the few California Impressionists known for rendering convincing architecture. He was particularly drawn to white-walled buildings roofed with red tile, which he found in Spain, Italy, California and Mexico. This work was painted in Croatia during a tour of Europe in 1912.
