Color photo of the Kanaloa plant (#1) at the top of 'Ale'ale. 'Ale'ale is a sea-stack linked to the land by a narrow causeway near the western headland of Kamohio Bay. Translations of 'Ale'ale include "rippling waters," "to ripple," "ripple." It was the home of the last known Kanaloa plant (Kanaloa kahoolawensis) in the wild. The plant is also known as Ka palupalu o Kanaloa. It has only been found on Kaho'olawe. Currently the KIRC is working selected nurseries in propagating this plant. As of 2021, there are no known Kanaloa plants in the wild.Photograph Details
