This co-op store was founded in 1868-69. John R. Barnes was selected to be the superintendent. This business was affiliated with the Zions Cooperative Mercantile Institution (ZCMI) started by Brigham Young and other Salt Lake City investors. For a time, it was the only mercantile store in Kaysville. The building pictured here was built on the corner of Main Street and Center Street. In 1891, the building was expanded to house the first Barnes Banking Company. The KCMI was in business from 1869 to 1927.
