The farm was part of the original homestead of Daniel and Hannah Smuin Harvey who were early settlers in east Kaysville, later Fruit Heights. Alpheus Harvey inherited his farm as a descendant. Malcolm, age 22 and the son of Alpheus, was home from the Navy at the time the photograph was taken.
The old planter was parked or abandoned between the two sections of the north side of the field. When Alpheus's grandchildren were growing up, a tree had grown up through it. "Whenever we would go hunt golf balls, we kids would go get the putter we had hidden in the hopper and practice swinging at the balls. That was the extent of my golf career."
