Context

The William Payne Fr. family were the first to plant trees and flowers in the cemetery. They hauled water in barrels from the Simmons Hollow north of the cemetery. The stream originated at a spring close to the south fork of Holmes Creek. The three boys from left to right are James, Joseph and Orson Payne. The grave is of their mother who died in 1890 and is buried to the right of the tall stone and is generally located on the first road on the west side of the cemetery.
