Context

The William Payne Jr. family was the first to plant trees and flowers in the cemetery. They hauled water in barrels from the Simmons Hollow north of the cemetery. The stream was the south fork of Holmes Creek. The three boys, from left to right, are James, Joseph, and Orson Payne. The boys' mother died in 1890 and is buried to the right of the tall stone. Location in the (then) Kaysville - Layton Cemetery is the first road on west side of cemetery.
