This edition again illustrates the varied and exciting curriculum and reflects the children's enthusiasm for learning . The drawings and paintings accompanied by the range of comment, observations, description and stories which are contributed by each class, frequently illustrated by photographs, remind us of the topic work and first-hand experiences of the children's year. The photographs of the art , craft and CDT work, of the concerts and assemblies , of the sports , physical education and school teams, and of local visits and camps all illustrate the breadth and quality of school life. Also recorded are some of this year's highlights, such as the visit of Roger McGough, the Hallowe'en activities and the opening of the school bookshop. One of the important aspects of Kellett has always been the close liaison between parents and school, so valuable in the support it gives to the children and the curriculum. Our magazine demonstrates this close co-operation through the many parent faces shown not only at the camps, on excursions and at the family sports day, but also at this year's fund-raising activities such as the Easter fair and the barn dance . Parents visiting Kellett , when selecting a school for their children, ask about our philosophy, about our facilities, about our priorites and what children will learn. Waiting at London Airport recently for a delayed flight , I picked up a book called All I Really Need To Know I Learned Jn Kindergarten. This provided appropriate reading matter for my flight and also food for thought. What are the priorities for a meaningful life if children don't begin by learning the things that Robert Fulghum learned at kindergarten: Share with others . Play fair. Don't hurt people . Put things back where you found them and clear up your own mess. Don't take things that aren't yours . Say sorry when you hurt someone . Live a balanced life - learn some, think some, draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work some, every day. Be aware of wonder - remember the little seed in the polystyrene cup. Goldfish, hamsters and little seeds all die . Remember to look . And, finally , when you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together. From The Principal Our children come from many countries, from many nationalities, and have different experiences to draw on. The delightful pages of photographs on pages 18 and 19 confirm this. The fact that they can all co-operate to work, play, learn and share their lives at Kellett so successfully is a good basis for life in our international community . Then I flew down from the sun and then I saw the Iron Man and then we talked. "You won", I said to him. Idan Udalevich I was standing on the top of a cliff and I fell down it and I got scattered across the beach. I lost one of my ears. The farmers trapped me but I got out and Hogarth took me to a junk yard. A bat angel dragon came to earth and landed on Australia and demanded food . But the Earthlings did not give him any food , instead they thought of a plan. I had a competition and the dragon had to go up to the sun and I had to go on a fire. I won. The End Rhys Adams The Iron Man I am a space-bat-angel-dragon . I came from space. I lived in a star and I sang every day with my friends . Then I heard a battle on earth so I felt like joining in. I fell with a bump on Australia. I told them to give me some food but they said no . So I got really mad and I said , "I will give you one week and if you do not give me anything I will stick my tongue out all over Australia!" Samantha Bradley I am a farmer and I have a boy called Hogarth. One day Hogarth was fishing in the stream when suddenly he saw two green headlamp eyes and a head as big as a bedroom. He was as tall as the biggest tree and he was made of iron. He ate cars and lots of things. We farmers made a big hole. Hogarth managed to persuade the Iron Man and he fell into the hole. One day a family came for a picnic. They saw a hill where the Iron Man was. The family did not know the Iron Man was there but suddenly a crack appeared on the hill and the family rushed to the car. What should we farmers do now? Should we call the army? But Hogarth had an idea, and so the Iron Man came to the scrap metal yard to live . But they did not give it to me so I said to the earth people , " If you do not give it to me in a week I will lick the whole earth away". The -countries did not iike this so they sent their armies to demolish me. But it did not work. Hogarth went to see the Iron Man and told him that no one would dare to kill me. Can you think of a plan? He could not think of a plan but he thought and thought and then he got a plan. The Iron Man sent fuel from China to Australia, and the Iron Man said to me, "I challenge you to a contest". So I said, ''You challenge me! Ho, Ho you are a wimp". So the Iron Man said, " Let the fire start". The Iron Man signalled to the engineers to put the fuel in . The Iron Man went in and came out white and then he said "Now it 's your turn ." and I said, "M~ go into that?" The Iron Man said " No, go into the sun". I said, " I will do it". So I flew into the sun. I came out black. The Iron Man signalled to the engineers one more time. They put the fuel in and set it on fire. He went in again, he came out white: "Now its your turn". So I went to the sun and I came out black. The Iron Man signalled to the engineers and again they put the fuel in and set it on fire . The Iron Man went in and came out white and said, " Now it's your turn". And I said, "No, I will be your slave". "What can you do? " "I can sing". "OK, you will sing around the world day and night", And that is what I do now. Peter Sabine 99 100 The Crew Our space woman is called Lena Ring and her age is 27.
