With the introduction of the National Curriculum in all maintained schools in the United Kingdom, we have made sure that we are evaluating its relevance for our children in Hong Kong. As an independent school we are able to take the best of the National Curriculum so that our children are given the best possible education. This year the staff have focused on science and, with the addition of our new science room, improved facilities and additional staff, the children's scientific learning has been greatly extended. Both parents and children have particularly enjoyed the science curriculum evenings and workshops. Many of our parents have worked this year to complete the fund raising for our roof extension, which was ready for occupation after Chinese New Year. The Janet Rutherford Room has given us welcome additional space for mµsic, drama and videos. This year's magazine reflects the many highlights of the school year: · the concerts, camps and trips, the visiting band, the art and science exhibitions and displays, the fund-raising activities in which the children and parents supported a variety of local charities, and the many extra curricular activities from Family Sports Day to clubs, Cubs and Brownies and the inter-school tournaments in chess, netball, rugby and football. The children's paintings, drawings, stories and poems focus on the interesting range of topics which provide the basis for learning. Before beginning to write the introduction for the magazine, I flicked open last year's copy; this resulted in two hours of browsing and many pleasant memories. Samantha Dickinson plays the flute in Riddlesworth Hall orchestra and swims for the school team. 143 Inter-Schools This year has been another year of successes for the Kellett soccer team. They reached the final of the HongLok Yuen soccer tournament and failed to win the cup by a whisker. They won the ESF/SCEA soccer tournament taking home the cup for the second year running. Netball Members of tne chess team face several challenging games against teams from other Hong Kong schools before taking part in the Inter-Schools Chess Tournament in June. The Kellett Primary 5 and Primary 6 teams have played several friendly matches and participated in the ESF/SCEA netball tournament. We came second in our section. Two of our team were chosen to play for Hong Kong island netball team against Kowloon The Kellett rugby team distin guished themselves by winning an incredible semi-final in the ESF/SCEA rugby tournament, although the team had only been established for three weeks and they had only had a handful of practices.
