Description

This is a colored chromolithograph of Bachman's Warbler by J. Bien, after the Birds of America engravings by Robert Havell, Jr., after original artwork by John James Audubon. This is No. 4-7, Plate 108, which is printed at the upper corners at the viewer's left and right, respectively. The image depicts two birds in the branches of the Franklinia tree, which feature white blooms placed near the center of the image. The male of the pair is arranged above and to the viewer's left of the blooms, with the female below and to the viewer's right. Both birds are presented in profile, facing toward the viewer's left. The inscription at the bottom center reads: "Bachman's Warbler / SYLVIA BACHMANII, Aud. Male, 1. Female, 2. Gordonia pubescens." The printing credit at the bottom corner at viewer's right reads: "Chromolithy by J. Bien, New York, 1860." A small, circular stamp, located at the bottom corner at the viewer's right on the back of the plate, has the letters, "S L Z."
