This print is a New York Historical Society Oppenheimer Edition that is a facsimile of John James Audubon's "Baltimore Oriole" painting used to create the engraving for The Birds of America. The image shows three birds in a tulip poplar tree. The upper bird is a male and he flying down toward the female bird on the left. His head, upper back and tail are black. His wings are black except for the shoulders and feather tips which are yellow. The female is on the left portion of the print and is brown where the male is black and yellow. Her wings are black with white highlights. The third bird is just right of the center of the print on the bottom and is a young male. He is colored the same as the adult male. He is facing left and there is a good view of the bird's breast and belly which are yellow. They are perched in a tulip tree with white flowers scattered about. The female is clinging to a nest.
