JJA.2004.4.1Description
This is a leather-bound volume that includes pages of handwritten notes detailing various scientific experiments and calculations. A diagram of a steam valve is tucked in the pages. These pages only fill half of the volume; the remaining pages from the original binding appear to have been cut out. Newspaper articles on scientific subjects are included in the pages after the notes, and three newspapers, two published by the Cincinnati Gazette (dated January 9, 1830 and February 6, 1830) and one by the National Republican (dated January 19, 1830), are tucked in at the end of the volume. The inside cover and first page of the volume lists the births and deaths of various Bakewell family members. A newspaper obituary for William G. Bakewell is pinned at the top of the inside cover. Three pages of typed genealogical information about the Bakewell family were tucked into the front of the volume. Two contracts signed by William Bakewell, Thomas Bakewell, and Benjamin Page that established the Bakewell Glass factory were also included.Collection
