JJA.1938.1643Description
This small ornate cup is intricately sculpted to depict eyes, ears, nose, and mouth on the side opposite the twisted handle. Immediately below the face, a design has been etched into the body of the vessel, and two small protrusions are on the left and right side of this design. To the viewer's left of the face, an attachment that joins the cup at the rim, body, and midpoint between the two, might be another detail of the face sculpted on this piece. A small, rounded protrusion along the rim above the face might be part of the depiction, but this component is incomplete as a part has broken off. The piece is a dull orange, but some areas around the face and design retain some reddish orange color. This piece might have served a ceremonial purpose. 38.1643 is written on the bottom.Collection
