This ledger book with the title, "Water Birds / John J. Audubon / F. R.S." has brown leather and marbled-paper covered front and back covers. This is a most interesting ledger with expenses recorded for various trips south, north, etc. to promote the Octavo edition. It contains also a record many of the expenses incurred for the building of the Audubon's home, "Minniesland" as well as a record of the final payment made to Robert Havell one year after the completion of the publication. It contains also numerous accounts of numbers (prints) shipped or delivered to the customers and money billed or collected on those accounts. It contains what appears to be records of the sale of some of the remaining Havell volumes of "The Birds of America." The ledger book had newsprint pasted over some pages which were removed by Joel Oppenhiemer.Collection
