Letter - F.A. Lucas to Mary Eliza Audubon, 22 July 1914Entry/Object ID
JJA.1938.567Description
This is a typed-written letter on letterhead to Eliza Audubon concerning a painting of pheasants by John James Audubon, which she had given to the American Museum of Natural History in 1913. Transcription of the letter is as follows: "F. A. Lucas July the twenty-second, Nineteen hundred fourteen, Dear Madam; I thought that you might like to hear how the painting of Pheasants, which you kindly gave us last year, has come out . It has been treated, as I noted in a previous letter, that is, rebacked, the scratches repaired and the painting cleaned. It will be rehung in a day or two. I may say that we never really appreciated the picture before, as the cleaning has brought out its original brilliancy of coloring. Very fortunately the injuries I spoke of took place in or near the border, so that none of the detail has been in the slightest way impaired. Faithfully yours, F. A. Lucas, Director, Miss M. Eliza Audubon."Collection
