JJA.1938.565Description
This is an acknowledgement letter on regular museum letterhead from the American Museum of Natural History for a gift from Mrs. M. F. Tyler of a flag carried by John James Audubon on his expedition to Labrador in 1833 and a hat worn on his journey to the upper Missouri in 1843. Transcription of the letter is as follows:
"From: The American Museum of Natural History
November 3rd, 1924
My dear Mrs. Tyler,
It is indeed very good of you to offer us the case containing your grandfather's hat and the remains of the flag which he carried with him to Labrador. We shall be more than glad to add these souveniors to our collection of Auduboniana, where I hope in due time you may see them. You will be interested to know that Mr. George N. Lawrence's son, John Lawrence, recently gave us a painting of a coyote by your grandfather, which he had given to Mr. N. Lawrence evidently not long after the return from the upper Missouri trip, and also an enlargement of the daguerreotype made at about the same time.
With my best regards, I am, Sincerely yours,
F. M. Chapman
