Description

This is a handwritten letter from Lucy Audubon to Mrs. Croes. The letter reads as a follows: "My dear Mrs. Croes, Your welcome letter would not have remained so long unanswered but that I have been so harrased by my affairs that I could not command my writing, whilst labouring under so much disappointment and sorrow. I really seems as if the Lawyers had no feeling for their clients. We were very much pleased to see your Son. This place is not yet filled up, nor in most likely to be. Mr. Bery Church left us a month ago, his Brother is as lively and agreeable as ever, The Jennings have left us. We have had for a while Mr. Brush a very agreeable Person he too has left us. I regretted to hear of your illness, but as we have lately had very pleasant whether I hope you are now more easy. the young people keep you well informed of all our proceedings therefore I need not detail them again. Poor Mr. Hughes is at this time quite indisposed from a very bad feverish cold which as preyed upon him sadly. I hope he will soon be better, all the rest are well. Harriet sends her love to you along with mine to Miss Mary, who I suppose is the Daughter with you. When shall we have the same pleasures again as last summer? Tomorrow we have a new Boarder in the Person of Mr. Roufillett not speaking a word scarcely of English. Remember me to Miss Helen and your excellent Son when you write to them. Believe me Dear Madam Yours affectionately, Lucy Audubon Nov. 30th. 1863."
