This print is a New York Historical Society Oppenheimer Edition that is a facsimile of John James Audubon's "Mallard Duck" painting which was used to create the print in The Birds of America. In this print, four Mallard Ducks are displayed: two adult males, one adult female, and a juvenile. The adult male on the right bends a piece of tall grass down for the juvenile to eat a snail off of it. The female is low to the but displaying the rear blue spot. The male's heads appear to be faded and missing coloring, but the original painting used gold leaf inside of the green paint to give the heads an iridescent look.Artwork Details
