New York American, 1833 (newspaper) This is an issue of the New-York American, published on Tuesday, April 2, 1833. This issue is VOL. XIII, No. 1264. This paper was published at No. 35 Wall street, New York, every Tuesday and Friday. This issue consists of a large sheet folded in half, with six columns printed on each half. The front page has the news for Thursday evening, March 28, and Friday evening, March 29. This section of the news includes reports on such topics as a court case, the value of imports and exports, the New York legislature, presidential appointments, and a translated "Letter from Lafayette to the Inhabitants of Bogota." The news for Saturday evening, March 30, is printed on the second page. This lists new publications, such as Francis the First, A Tragedy and The Physician's Pocket Synopsis. This section also gives a report on a "Scene in the British House of Commons on the discussion of Irish affairs" and a meteorological report. The news for Monday, April 1, is printed on the third page. This contains articles concerning developments in the New York legislature and an excerpt from the Journal of Commerce regarding a court case. The fourth page contains an excerpt on British Canals from Partington's British Cyclopedia.
A small notice of Audubon's arrival in New York is printed in the fourth column from the left. It reads as follows:
"Mr. Audubon, whose unequalled work on the Birds and Plants-for it truly embraces the history of both-of the United States, is now in this City. He has with him many of his original drawings from which the engravings for the book are made, and will, we hope, afford an opportunity to the public of seeing them, and thus effectually awaken their interest in a truly national work. No State, or College or other public Library, should be without it; and every individual who can afford the substantial and enduring luxury of a well chosen private library, should possess this publication-costly though it be-yet more valable [sic] than costly."Collection
