This is an issue of the New-York Daily Tribune, published in New York on Saturday morning, March 11, 1843. Greeley & McElrath, located at Office No. 160, Nassau-Street, published the paper. This paper is No. 285 of Vol. II. The paper consists of a single folded sheet, with six columns printed on each half. Among news articles reprinted from other papers and various advertisements, an article about John James Audubon is printed on the front page. The article reads as follows:
"A splendid work is proposed to be issued by John J. Audubon and the Rev. Dr. Buchanan. Its title will be the 'Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America.' It will contain figures and descriptions of all the quadruped in s this country, including Texas, California, the British possessions, and the Arctic regions. Many of the species will be given of their natural size. The plates will be twenty-two by twenty-eight inches, and equal in beauty and interest to those of the large work of Audubon. Indeed, from the specimens before us, they will not be surpassed in their execution by any thing of the kind heretofore published in this country. They are likewise to be carefully colored from the original drawings. All the information collected by the authors, as well as the interesting observations of others, will be comprised in the work. It is to be issued in about thirty numbers, at intervals of two months, of which the first will appear in December. Each number will contain five plates, and be sold for ten dollars. It is unnecessary for us to say that this will not only be a highly valuable work, but the most splendid of the kind that can be got up among us. [Eve. Post."
The second page includes news articles from various states, a review of a pamphlet about John C. Calhoun, and court news. The third page lists numerous lectures and meetings alongside advertisements for such items as candy and watches. The fourth page has an article on "Zodiacal Light," in addition to more advertisements and several notices for claims against various deceased individuals.Collection
